How to Use

  • The reader begins with the first set and progresses through the stories in numerical order, from 1 to 8 or from 1 to 5.
  • After completing the first set, the reader moves on to the second set, and so on.
  • Once all seven sets have been completed, the reader is considered to have mastered reading.

Classroom Use

  • When used in the classroom, this series enables teachers to provide reading practice that accommodates the different reading levels typically found in first and second grade classes.
  • The teacher may divide the class into groups according to each group's reading level and begin each group at the appropriate stage.

Recommended Reading Practices

  • The reader should place a finger under each word while reading.
  • The reader should refer to the illustrations if unable to read a word.
  • The reader should be given sufficient time to read each word or reread it when necessary.
  • The reader should be encouraged to correct their own reading before the teacher or reading supervisor intervenes.

Suggested Post-Reading Activities

After reading each story, the following activities are recommended:
  • Ask the reader about their understanding of the story or have them retell what they remember.
  • Ask the reader about the meanings of new words.
  • Encourage the reader to create vocabulary lists of newly learned words and use them in their own sentences.
  • Write the sight words on charts and display them on the wall in the reader's room or classroom.
  • Encourage the reader to speak about topics presented in the stories, such as the seasons, the calendar, and other related themes.
