It is commonly found in arid regions to provide protection from direct sun exposure, as well to protect the mouth and eyes from blown dust and sand.

The Kofiya has been worn by Arabs residing in the Middle East region for over a century, the black and white Kofiya is known as a symbol of the Palestinian heritage
